The 3X zoom has been the biggest addition to OnePlus' camera system and OnePlus has been proudly stating that it achieves a lossless 3X optical zoom. Portrait mode utilizes all 13 megapixels from the sensor in the telephoto camera. ImKuya tested this in a video, illustrating how the camera shows a noticeable switch when you hit that 3x zoom, but that when you shoot portrait mode with the telephoto camera, it's more like a 2.2x zoom.
When the OnePlus 7 Pro was announced there was a lot made of the quality of the camera with it scoring an incredible 111 with DxOMark8, putting it at about the same quality as the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung S10 5G. Basically, yes: the 13MP sensor has a 2.2x equivalent focal length which, when cropped to 8MP, is 3x.
OnePlus 7 Pro has enjoyed a fair share under the spotlight, but as consumers started receiving their units, certain issues with the device are starting to raise concerns. Huawei generally avoids this for its phones, promoting the native zoom factor (3x or 5x) and using "hybrid zoom" branding otherwise. The new version of the app adds new features and modes to the camera.

It's a bit like saying that throwing a full frame Nikon DSLR into DX mode for a 1.5x crop is giving a "1.5x zoom".

The update also fixes one of the annoying bugs present on the OnePlus 7 Pro which is the delay in audio while playing games on a Bluetooth headset.

Separately, the OnePlus 7 Pro has been reported to have done exceedingly well in the home market, with the first sale figures exceeding CNY 1 billion in one minute on JD.com, making it the best-selling product on the website.
