Missouri authorities said heavy rain was a contributing factor in the deaths of two people in a traffic accident Tuesday near Springfield. Hospitals reported treating injuries such as cuts and bruises.
The tornado hit just north of Joplin, about 150 miles south of Kansas City. Dozens of tornadoes hit other cities in Missouri.
Meteorologist Cory Rothstein said it's possible that tornado had a 50-mile path and could have been on the ground for 80 minutes.
Officials surveyed the damage by helicopter Thursday morning, while police warned residents of Jefferson City to beware of downed electrical lines as power is restored. She and her students plan to visit Jefferson City again today (Friday, May 24).
Williams additionally mentioned they had obtained more than one calls of folks trapped of their properties.
The tornado moved at 40 miles per hour through the city in central Missouri and shot debris about 13,000 feet into the air.
Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, asked neighborhoods near a dam to prepare for evacuations if they're needed, because officials are intentionally releasing water to relieve pressure on the structure.
The Department of Missouri reports wide-spread damage covering Boulevard Highway 54 in Jefferson City.

"The tornado went right over us, and it sounded like a roller coaster that made our ears feel pressurized", Pierson said.
"We need to have people that are not affected stay out of the area", Williams said at an earlier press conference.

The rural area where there Harris's and Bergs lived is about one to three miles outside of central Golden City, a woman at the township's offices tells PEOPLE.
