Viral Internet sensation, Grumpy Cat, has sadly died at seven years old after she was unable to "overcome" complications from a urinary tract infection.
Our thoughts are with Grumpy's loved ones and her fans at this hard time.
"Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough".
With 1.5 million followers on Twitter, the demise of Grumpy Cat leaves many social media users more than a little morose. Bryan Bundesen, the brother of Grumpy's owner Tabatha, posted the image, which was seen by more than 1million people within 48 hours.
Revealing the news of Grumpy's death, the cat's owners said: "Some days are grumpier than others".
Farewell Grumpy Cat, we'll miss you.
"Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere", she said.
Let's have a look back at some of her greatest moments.
She went on to become the face of thousands of memes across the internet, before launching her own website.
Grumpy Cat starred in her own movie in 2014, headlining Lifetime's made-for-TV Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, with Aubrey Plaza providing the kitty's voice.
The cat's image was hot property: a year ago, a California jury awarded Bundesen's company, Grumpy Cat Limited, damages of $710,001 in a lawsuit against a beverage company that had created an unauthorized line of "Grumpy Cat Roasted Coffee" and which was selling Grumppuccino tee-shirts without sharing profits.
