A new chapter in the relationship between the USA and Russian Federation may be on the horizon. "If Russia were to engage in that in 2020, it would put our relationship in an even worse place than it is".

Russian Federation and America on Tuesday agreed to seek better relations and ease tensions, even as they clashed on issues ranging from Iran and Venezuela to alleged Kremlin meddling in US elections.
In January, Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself acting president, fueling the tension in the country in the wake of protests after President Nicolas Maduro was sworn in for a second term following a vote boycotted by the opposition. "I hope that the necessary conditions for that to happen will now be created".

Lavrov also said that he passed Pompeo a list of proposals that includes establishment of an expert council, consisting of former soldiers and diplomats, that would try to find solutions for existing problems.
Pompeo stated, "We are looking for Iran to behave like a normal country, and we have applied pressure to the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran to achieve that".
Pompeo said he had also complained to Lavrov about USA citizens being detained in Russian Federation, a reference to the case of Paul Whelan, a former Marine accused of espionage, and Michael Calvey, an investor accused of fraud.
The Russian Foreign Minister informed that he agreed with Pompeo to re-establish the channels of communication that have been frozen in recent times, due to unfounded accusations against his country regarding meddling in United States internal affairs.
Lavrov mockingly said that the United States had also promoted democracy in war-torn Iraq and Libya and called for dialogue with Maduro - an option rejected by Washington.
