Smoothing out the odds: For the first time in the 34 years of the draft lottery, the odds will be smoothed out to increase chances of getting a better pick.
Here's Gang Green's note of support to the long-suffering Knicks franchise ahead of tonight's National Basketball Association draft lottery at 8:30 ET.
Whatever the chances are or where the pick ends up being, Minnesota will have some options to choose from.
Three teams - New York, Cleveland, Phoenix - are tied for the best odds at 14 percent each. This was done to discourage teams from losing intentionally to help their lottery odds, though it's unclear whether it helped on that front. With the new structure in place, their shot at the top pick is more than doubled and their chance to land within the top five rose by 17 percent. It flattened the odds at the top so that the worst three teams each have a 14% chance of the top pick.
The gap starts with the fourth-worst team, though the difference isn't huge. It wasn't without controversy though, as many still believe that year's Draft Lottery was fixed by the league.
Once the lottery has concluded, New Orleans' plans for its first round pick will be easier to determine.
"I'm told if the Knicks get the number one overall pick they would shift their focus toward a potential deal for Anthony Davis", he said.
The Knicks are looking to sign multiple superstars this summer, and many consider them the favorite to land both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
It also would not be ideal for the Grizzlies to get the No. 1 pick, because it would probably devalue the future first-round choice Boston will receive from Memphis. If it's not No. 1, the pick will convey to the Boston Celtics.
One of the first tests for Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas will be - how lucky is he?
