President Donald Trump on Monday publicly recommended Boeing "rebrand" its troubled 737 Max planes after two fatal crashes led to the grounding of the model and widespread criticism against the company. And Southwest Airlines, the other USA airline that has 737 Max 8 jets, also has canceled flights involving the aircraft through August.
On the heels of American Airlines' Sunday announcement that it would keep its Boeing 737 Max fleet grounded until at least August 19, President Trump weighed in with some advice for the aircraft's maker.
Booming demand along with the grounding of Boeing's 737 Max aircraft is biting into Northern Hemisphere spring and summer schedules. "No product has suffered like this one".
The chief of Ethiopian Airlines says the warning and training requirements set for the now-grounded 737 Max aircraft may not have been enough following the Ethiopian plane crash that killed 157 people. But again, what the hell do I know?' The plane crashed shortly after takeoff and investigators suspect a flaw in the system's anti-stall system caused the wreck.
Pilots are expected to play a major role in regaining public confidence in the aircraft, but Trump's tweet marks the first time the brand underpinning Boeing profits in coming years has been thrown into question at such a high level. The FAA have convened a meeting on April 12 with safety representatives of the three USA -based airlines that have the Boeing 737 MAX in their fleets, as well as the pilot unions for those airlines.
Boeing and the FAA announced March 12 that they would develop and recertify a set of modifications to the MCAS system and its related flight-control software.
"We're taking a comprehensive, disciplined approach, and taking the time to make sure we get it right", he said.
