Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City will have to win their remaining five Premier League games if they are to retain the title next month after watching his team maintain the pressure on Liverpool with a ninth successive victory.
Moreover, City's 1-0 defeat in the first leg in north London, means they are in danger of again missing out on the trophy that the club's Abu Dhabi owners most desire after billions of pounds worth of investment.
"I'll be on the bus or plane", Guardiola said.
Asked how we'll approach a game against a team whose Premier League fate has already been sealed, Mauricio replied: "Always with all the respect".
After Palace, City host Tottenham twice in four days in the second leg of their Champions League tie and the Premier League. By pushing up the pitch Palace played into City's hands, and with the extra space afforded to him De Bruyne, one of the players rested against Spurs for this game, picked out Gabriel Jesus, who took his time to pick his spot and then duly found it, slotting in at the near post to put the result, finally, beyond any doubt. Liverpool returned to the top of the table by beating Chelsea and City are two points adrift with a game in hand.
It doesn't look like an easy game for City on paper.
"For a month in the Premier League, we knew it would be nearly impossible - possible, but very hard - if we dropped points". That is some boost at this stage of the campaign, and Guardiola was effusive in his praise of a player who, even in such a richly talented squad, noticeably raises City's level when on song. There was a risk that City might suffer in midfield given that Fernandinho missed out with a minor injury, but De Bruyne covered every blade of grass.
