Lee Radziwill, the jet setter and socialite who made friends worldwide even as she bonded and competed with her older sister Jacqueline Kennedy, has died. In her later years, Lee gave a few interviews about her legendary life.
Radziwill was born in New York City in 1933 to John Vernou Bouvier III, a stockbroker, and socialite Janet Norton Lee.
In 1961, Lee was invited to Buckingham Palace when John and Jackie Kennedy were entertained to dinner by the Queen and Prince Philip. She teached [sic] me a lot.
In 1968, Ms. Kennedy Wednesday the Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis, whom Ms. Radziwill herself had once thought of marrying, only to have her sister urge her not to.
Another scrapbook memoir, One Special Summer was a 1974 release that followed her first trip to Europe when she was 18, chaperoned by Jackie, then 22.
In 1988, she married film director and choreographer Herbert Ross, later telling the New York Times, "He was certainly different from anybody else I'd been involved with, and the film world sounded exciting".
"There were so many things I couldn't do when my brother-in-law was president", Radziwill told Vanity Fairin 2016.
She married Prince Radziwill, a descendant of Polish royalty who became an English subject, in 1959.
The former princess married publishing executive Michael Temple Canfield in 1953.
In a 2013 with The New York Times, Radziwill spoke of the fame that came with being the First Lady's sister: "Well, at times it was annoying, at times amusing".
All three marriages ended in divorce or annulment. Capote fell out of favor with them in 1975 when Esquire magazine published "La Cote Basque 1965" - his thinly veiled tale of sex and dirty secrets based on the "swans".
Radziwill is survived by her daughter Anna.
