A legal letter from Nantes was emailed to Cardiff on Tuesday - the second demand in the space of a week - to request urgent payment.

Cardiff City had agreed to a club record 15m pounds to sign the striker from the French club.

Sala and his pilot David Ibbotson have been missing since shortly after their plane took off from France on January 21.

Nantes have allegedly threatened to take legal action if Cardiff do not pay them within 10 days, although reports from Cardiff suggest the club will honour their agreement with the Ligue 1 club.

Pilot Dave Ibbotson was also on board as rescuers revealed one body has been spotted inside the aircraft 220ft under water.

Sala's plane disappeared into the deep blue waters while en route to Cardiff after saying his final goodbye to his former team-mates.

The plane, which was being flown from Nantes to Cardiff by pilot David Ibbotson when it vanished above the Channel Islands, was found on Sunday during the first day of a private search.

A source at the Welsh club says the contract will be honoured but not before Cardiff have clarified "all the facts".

It is also reported that Bordeaux are entitled to a cut of the fee for Argentinian striker Sala, who was on their books from 2012 to 2015 before joining Nantes.

Sky Sports News understands the club feels it necessary for the salvage operation in the Channel to be concluded and for both the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and the police to conclude their investigations before any payments are made.
