After winning a whopping eight of their final ten games you'd think the Cowboys are close to being a championship-level team. The NFL's best become involved, as the four teams that got to enjoy a week off jump into the fray hoping to avoid upsets.
Now we have the Gillette Factor. It's the only rematch scheduled for this weekend, and it features the largest point spread of the 2019 National Football League playoffs.
Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports: Chiefs (-4.5) edge it out over the Colts. I was too young to understand how brutal it was to have the number one seed in 1998 and lose in the Divisional Round, especially to the hated Denver Broncos, who would go on to win it all that year. The Chiefs recovered and were never again seriously threatened.
Crunching the numbers, our projections have Luck slated for 316.82 passing yards, which gives him slightly more than 11 yards of value on his player prop.
The Indianapolis Colts on the other hand may be the most unsafe team in the playoffs right now. If the Chargers can turn in another stifling defensive performance, their odds are good. One side has Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, while the other brings Jared Goff and Todd Gurley. But the 13-3 Saints are 8.5-point favorites to advance in the playoffs with a victory at home today.
Damien Williams ran through snow and muck for 129 yards and another score, and Tyreek Hill had 72 yards receiving and a touchdown run, as the Chiefs beat Indianapolis for the first time in five playoff meetings to earn their first AFC title game appearance since January 1994.
They've had bigger playoff meltdowns against the Colts.
But what won the game was McVay's savvy in almost abandoning his signature, high-flying offense and instead relying heavily on the run against a Cowboys defense that last week decisively shut down the NFL's top rushing team in the Seattle Seahawks. If the Saints play to their offensive capabilities, they should overwhelm the Eagles and win this game.
With this bowling ball of a running back making such consistent gains against the vaunted Dallas front, Los Angeles was able to put the offense in cruise control and really wore down their opponent. If that happens, all bets are off. The Rams will be looking to avenge those two earlier losses by winning when it matters most: in the playoffs.
Two years later, it's a signature moment in the sudden transformation at quarterback for America's Team, triggered when Romo was injured in another preseason game. The Patriots are near ideal at home and the Chargers are near flawless, 8-1, on the road. They were also tops in passing yards per game and yards per play in the L.A. Coliseum. Philip Rivers and the Chargers find themselves in Foxboro, where Tom Brady and the Patriots will look to continue their dominance.
Of all four divisional games, the one in Kansas City stands the best chance of being disrupted by weather. Most of the credit for this recovery should go to HC Frank Reich. The Colts, who play in a dome, could certainly be impacted by this, though the impacts may be minimizes if the storm passes through quickly enough.
