Patterson has no criminal history in Wisconsin, but his brother has had multiple run-ins with the law, including convictions for marijuana possession, bail jumping and sexual assault, online court records show.
They found her parents, 56-year-old James Closs and 46-year-old Denise Closs, dead from gunshot wounds when they arrived. Ten minutes after Jayme was found, Patterson was pulled over and arrested. He was jailed on suspicion of kidnapping and homicide. Sheriff Fitzgerald went on to again state that at this time there is no indication that Patterson had prior contact with Jayme, either through social media or in any other way.
A Facebook group called "Healing for Jayme Closs" has set up an address for the public to send letters to the 13-year-old Barron teen and her family.
"There is a reunification process in place going on right now that includes medical and mental evaluation, questioning by detectives and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, and after that, unification with her family", Fitzgerald said.
"It's a awful feeling when you don't know where your kid is but I don't know how I would react if I was to have mine walk through that door".
"We knew she was still there".
Mrs Kasinskas told the Press she had not seen him on their street or in town since high school, describing him as "a quiet kid".
On Jan. 11, a news conference was held by the BCSD where Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald gave a briefing on the case. Jayme was missing and an AMBER Alert was issued for her.
Smith said she cried "happy tears" when she found out Jayme was found. They said there is nothing to indicate that he knew or had contact with the family before the incident, and said they do not know how he came to fixate on Jayme.
Smart called Closs fearless, strong, and a powerful survivor - but also says there is a long road ahead.

"She said that this person's name was Jake Patterson, 'he killed my parents and took me, '" said another neighbour, Kristin Kasinskas.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, was arrested Thursday in Gordon, Wisconsin shortly after authorities say Jayme was able to escape from the home when Patterson was believed to have been out.
The 13-year-old is now in the care of other family members after her 88-day ordeal in captivity.
"I know all of you are searching for the answer why any of this happened", Fitzgerald said. "We don't believe he ... talked with them, had any digital footprint with them".
The sheriff said investigators believe Jayme was "the only target".

The cabin is in Eau Claire Acres, a development about 10 miles outside the tiny town of Gordon, nestled in the dense evergreen forests of northwestern Wisconsin that are popular with vacationers in the summer and snowmobilers and ATV riders in the winter.
Detectives pursued thousands of tips, watched dozens of surveillance videos and conducted numerous searches in the effort to find Jayme.
Jayme's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, said he had been praying for months for the call he received about his granddaughter.
