"There was no wrongdoing on my part", Israel said Friday in response to DeSantis' decision.
Gov. DeSantis also formally announced Israel's replacement on Friday and appointed Gregory Tony as Sheriff of Broward County.

According to Florida statute, the governor has the power to suspend the sheriff for actions such as "misfeasance" and "neglect of duty" and may fill the office by appointment for the period of suspension.
Broward Sheriff Scott Israel refused to resign for almost a year but on Friday, he was suspended and replaced by former Coral Springs Police Department Lt. Gregory Tony.
"Citizens are going to be in the position of having to hold Governor DeSantis accountable to his promises", said Moncrief.
"These incidents demonstrate Sheriff's Israel's repeated incompetence and neglect of duty", DeSantis wrote in his executive order.
Sheriff Israel has already said he intends to request a trial before the Florida Senate to fight for his job.
Tony tried to reassure sheriff's office employees, the families and the community as he takes over a troubled agency with 5,000 employees and 3,000 deputies.
"He has been one of the very few sheriffs whose had a strong presence in the black community", said Kelly Davis, a radio DJ known as Big Man Kelly.
"I do believe we've got the right guy", Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter was killed in the shooting, said.
While Israel's deputies apprehended him within 72 seconds, the draft of a county report said Israel and others didn't control the chaos, leaving passengers huddled in fear for hours.
According to the Miami New Times, Tony has extensive training in active shooter response.
