Terms of the White Sox's offer are unknown, though they aren't willing to offer a deal of 10 years in length, sources said Wednesday. Whether or not Machado decides to choose Chicago over NY, the landing spot he reportedly prefers, is still the big question at play. "White Sox will not be giving offer of more than 7 years for either player", Levine wrote.
While the slugger told reporters he was "just enjoying the ride" after taking a three-team tour, Machado reportedly told his friends he prefers the Yankees.
However, if the Phillies, Chicago White Sox, or some other team were to offer, say, a full 10-year deal at or above $400 million total value, such security would likely prove hard to turn down.
What interests Bryce Harper more, winning or more years on a contract? "The annual average salary is what matters most".
Phillies' principal owner John Middleton revealed earlier in the offseason, that his team could spend a stupid amount of money in order to land their preferred targets and with no long-term financial commitments at the moment they are looking at both Machado and Harper. For the White Sox to do that and not go past seven years, the contract would have to pay Harper an average salary of almost $47 million.
But Harper, according to Levine, has already received multiple 10-year offers, though there's no indication of which teams made those offers or if those offers have even been made by multiple teams. Apparently that hasn't been their only offer. But they'll likely have to give him more than $300 million.
Who will sign first?
