"You have grown, you have apologised, you are apologising again right now". Everyone took those headlines and started to run with it.
"Now, the slander on my name is all homophobia", he said. "Now I'm a little upset", he said. To go through 40,000 tweets to get back to 2008 - that's an attack. I'm cultured. I'm manufactured. "I'm not that guy". I know that I've addressed it; I know that I've apologized. "I don't do that anymore". I'm wrong. But I can't do nothing about that joke because it was done. "I don't do that".
While it's unclear if Hart will return as Oscars host, he did promise that he would make it onto the famous stage.
Capping a swift and dramatic fallout, Hart announced in December, merely two days after being hired for the job, that he was stepping down as Oscars host because he didn't want to be a distraction. What was once the brightest star and brightest light every just got real dark. That's my reason for doing it.
DeGeneres, who came out as gay in 1997, defended Hart by saying, "As a gay person... And I'll state it again, to anybody I've hurt, I'm sorry". And you know what? I have nothing against gay people. I'm the first person to say it.
"There is no flawless bone in my body".
He's apologised since the jokes, telling Rolling Stone in 2015 that it spoke of his "own insecurities" and that he "wouldn't tell that joke today, because when I said it, the times weren't as sensitive as they are now".
In a tweet announcing his decision to walk away from the job, Hart said: " I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many wonderful talented artists. "This was by far the most raw/honest & authentic interview that I have ever done. We are a huge group of people who love you and want to see you how the Oscars".
"But there were a few people who are anxious that the interview will be lighthearted and the talk show host won't ask tough questions".
"They were like, "Oh my God, we want him to host!"
Navarro said allowing Hart to host "could be a teaching moment".
"That's why they [The Academy] haven't found another host". Leaving here, I'm promising you I'm evaluating this conversation.
Adding that she's never one to buy into "mob mentalities" herself, McCain said that, for her, "Kevin Hart's apology hasn't really come up to snuff yet". I say it, I said it.
