Now it appears he is going to miss out on another target - De Telegraaf are reporting that De Jong has chose to sign for PSG, in a deal worth €75 million. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have admitted he is on their radar.
De Jong, 21, had been lined up by Guardiola as the ideal replacement for Fernandinho at the base of Manchester City's midfield, with the Brazilian turning 34 before the end of the season.
"Frenkie is guaranteed to stay with Ajax until the summer and I cannot say anything about it".
"The rumours appeared again today and I'm sure it will stay like this for a while, but I think we're handling it well". There are several interested clubs, Ajax are also speaking to a number of clubs and so is my agent.
"I can't be busy saying "I'm going there or there", as that would not show, for my part, any respect for Ajax and my teammates". That is not up to me.
Marc Overmars, current Ajax sports director, has recognised the contact but also wanted to point out the existence of interest from other teams. I said to him as much, because he would be enormous for us.
De Telegraaf newspaper claimed PSG had practically signed the player for 70m, however, although the Ajax player is in the process of arriving at the Parc des Princes, the Parisien's are clear that it won't be for that amount.
Kylian Mbappe has apparently played a key role in PSG moving for de Jong, with the teenage forward apparently reporting back to his club after recently facing de Jong in Netherlands colours while in action for France during the UEFA Nations League.
