The fact Messi has redefined the game using primarily his left foot and body feints while possessing a smaller stature is surely testament to his true greatness.
Legendary Brazilian forward Pele has launched a strangely specific attack on Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, and claims he can't be compared with the Argentine as Messi is one-footed and can't head the ball.
The Samba star has never been shy of giving his opinion on all things football, but it is unlikely that his latest musings will be well received by anyone outside of his homeland.
In an interview with Folha de S.Paulo (Brazilian daily Newspaper), Pele said that there is no comparison between him and Messi.
The 78-year-old Brazil icon said the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's inability to head the ball means he was a better player.
Mbappe has been compared to Pele after helping his country to win the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer. "To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots well with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers".
That does not sit well with Pele, however, who is adamant that there is no comparison between himself and the Barca star - whom he sees as something of a one-trick pony. Worldwide honours have proved elusive, though, having suffered final heartache at the World Cup and Copa America.
"[Franz] Beckenbauer, [Johan] Cruyff were also excellent players". I talked with him, I told him that in soccer, he's got it.
Pele has helped Brazil to win the World Cup three times.
Pele added, "As far as I'm concerned, Maradona was one of the best players ever". We talked and I told him: 'In soccer, God gave you a gift, but what you did is what made it hard.
"I told him he had football to spare, I've been to Europe twice with him recently, we have discussed it and I explained it to him".
