Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips now power over a billion phones ranging from entry-level devices to flagship models, which is undoubtedly what the Snapdragon 855 is destined for in the first quarter of 2019.
A 5G capable Samsung Galaxy S10 with a fingerprint sensor under the display doesn't sound all that far-fetched after Tuesday's announcement.
Now the company is uniquely positioned to help make 5G a commercial reality with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem and our mmWave modules. Qualcomm may not be a company you're very familiar with, but if you own a top-end Android phone it's likely some of the company's tech is inside your device. The chip maker says that 2019 will be all about 5G and most flagships or premium smartphones will be powered by Snapdragon 855. At this point, Qualcomm has only said this new chipset will offer "up to three times the AI performance compared to the previous generation mobile platform".

Devices with Snapdragon 855 should also see a significant improvement in computational photography thanks to the new Spectra 380 image signal processor (ISP), which will include computer vision capabilities.
AT&T plans to expand service in the first half of 2019 to parts of seven additional cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose, California. Currently, most in-display fingerprint sensors use optical sensors, so they shine light up through the screen to read your fingerprint on the display.
This is due to the fact that the 3D Sonic Sensor utilizes the ultrasonic method in order to scan fingerprints. The updated engine should deliver a 3x performance boost in artificial intelligence features over what we saw with the Snapdragon 845 now found in many Android flagship devices. The press conference is now underway, and we will announce more details shortly.
The new platform also promises better gaming experiences with its Snapdragon Elite Gaming feature. Katouzian promised a mobile platform that can deliver cinematic graphics and audio to mobile games while also providing long battery life for lengthy gaming sessions.
