"We've deleted a tweet and revised a story on the death of President George H.W. Bush because the tweet and the opening of the story referenced his 1992 electoral defeat and omitted his WWII service", said the AP's Sunday tweet.

George H.W. Bush died Friday at the age of 94.

Sully will make the journey with his last master to Washington D.C. on Monday where Bush will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol until Wednesday, Business Insider reported.

Bush 41 announced Sully's new place in the family in a photo with former President Bill Clinton.

Good boy, Sully. Good boy.

Social media users thanked Sully for his services and commented on his and dogs' loyalty generally towards their owners.

VetDogs says Sully is named after former airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, who is known for landing a damaged passenger jet on the Hudson River in 2009.

Sully became the late president's service dog in June, a couple of months after former first lady Barbara Bush died.

"Sully could open doors, pick up items and summon help", The Associated Press reported.

Once Bush lies in state, his casket will be transported by motorcade on Wednesday morning to the National Cathedral, where a state funeral will be held.

George W. Bush posted on Instagram that Sully will be reassigned. The train will take about 2½ hours to travel roughly 70 miles (113 kilometers) to the city of College Station, home to Bush's presidential library at Texas A&M University.

"My friend Sully had the great honor of helping my friend Mr. President George H.W. Bush".
