NYPD recovered the gorgeous ring from the grate and have since posted it online in an attempt to reunite it with the happy couple.
A British couple who suffered the nightmare of losing their engagement ring after their proposal in NY are to be reunited with it after police retrieved it and located them through an online appeal.
According to the Associated Press, the couple appealed to the police for help after losing the ring, but emergency service officers were unable to locate it.
He plans to use the money spent on the new ring to return to NY and buy coffee for the NYPD officers who retrieved the jewellery. "Congratulations!" the NYPD said on Twitter.
In a video released this week, a man can bee seen doing just that at New York City's popular tourist landmark - but unfortunately for him and his (hopefully, by now) fiancée, it didn't work out so well. Police have shared pictures of the footage from security cameras in the hope they will help them make sure the ring gets back to its rightful owners.
The couple were found due to retweets and widespread coverage of the story and heard the NYPD were looking for them, police said. There is also a request along with the video -"help us find them". After failing to find it, the couple went home to Britain.
Daniella said yes straight away but they both knew the ring wasn't the right size.
"Thank you, Twitter", the department tweeted.
"Love, John, Daniella, and the NYPD", the department tweeted on Sunday, along with a photo of the smiling couple.
And when they ended up in Times Square, the ring fell off.
Anthony said yes, but the ring was too big for her finger.
