The day after his party lost its lock on Congress, US President Donald Trump has walked into a White House press conference with combative words, blaming some Republicans for losing their seats and lashing out at reporters who challenged his assertions.
ACOSTA: Mr. President, I had one other question if I may ask on the Russian Federation investigation.
Acosta asked Trump if he thought he had demonized immigrants in the closing days of his campaign, but Trump responded he wanted immigrants to come in legally as the two frequent sparring partners spoke over each other.
"As you know Mr President, it's not an invasion".
"I'm not a big fan of yours either, to be honest..."
When asked why Representative Jeff Flake of Arizona, who was not a head of any committe, retired, Trump replied: "I retired him". "Honestly I think that you should let me run the country". Trump lashed out at Acosta, saying CNN "should be ashamed" of him and he's been awful to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.
"You run CNN. And if you did it well, your ratings will be much higher", Trump said, getting visibly angry. You're a very rude person.
"CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them", Trump said, wagging a finger at Acosta. You rudely interrupted him.
NBC correspondent Peter Alexander, who got to ask the next question, stood up for Acosta, only to receive some of Trump's ire too.
He later called Acosta an "enemy of the people". You're a very rude person.
A White House staff member steps in to try to take the microphone away from Acosta. "They weren't actors." He added that "they didn't come from Hollywood".
He also described CNN as "the enemy of the people".
"As you know, Mr. President, the caravan was not an invasion, Acosta said".
