The playoff chase has gone from the half-mile paperclip-shaped track at Martinsville to the high-speed 1 1/2-mile Texas layout where polesitter Ryan Blaney qualified at more than 200 miles per hour, along with Bowyer.
Harvick led 177 laps on a day when the other two members of the Big Three struggled.
Harvick rocketed past polesitter Ryan Blaney in overtime Sunday, after the third restart in the final 35 laps, to win the Texas fall race for the second year in a row and take one of the four championship-contending spots for the season finale in two weeks.
Succeeding taking the inside on the first two restarts and concisely getting defeated in the lead after the second one, Harvick chose to commence from outside for the green-white-checkered end.
Kevin Harvick's pit crew services his vehicle during a NASCAR Cup auto race at Texas Motor Speedway, Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, in Fort Worth, Texas. "I've said my peace, told him what I thought and I'm here at Texas trying to win". We finally knocked that barrier down (with a win in last year's Playoff race at TMS).
For the second consecutive race, Truex was forced to start from the rear of the field but unlike last week, he never found himself in position to pull out a win. The last one, he took the top, like I knew he was going to go. "He is still going to go to Homestead and race for a championship, it is just not smart". They are above the cut line, but Clint Boywer, Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch or Chase Elliott could advance with a win. After Harvick regained the lead, he held it until a late caution forced a two-lap overtime session.
Harvick was on the inside again for the next restart, before Blaney was able to get by him on the outside and into the lead.
"I don't believe we've reached the potential of where we can be, but I think you see the progress of things that have happened when you see how all four cars are running". "We nearly caught him the first restart up top and then I did on the second one".
Logano finished third a week after securing his playoff spot. "He motored around me".
"That's the plan anyways", Truex said.
But the gritty Truex eventually got one lap back and when a caution came out on Lap 296 he was back on the lead lap as the Free Pass recipient.
The first hiccup for Truex was starting the 334-lap race from the rear of the field due to an engine change following Saturday's final practice.
Martin Truex Jr. came to pit road early on Lap 247 to correct a loose left front wheel and in the process drove through too many pit boxes entering his stall.
"We were a third place vehicle and that restart there where we finally were in position we fought all day from the back and started at the tail and worked diligently all day to get up to the front and finally got ourselves in position to at least have a shot and race with those guys", Almirola said of the final restart of the day.
"That's how you control your destiny the most is to get in Victory Lane", Harvick said.
UP NEXT: The last race in the third round of the playoffs, Sunday at Phoenix. Buescher's JTG-Daugherty organization is using a Hendrick Motorsports engine for the first time next season.
