On Sunday, AMC announced that they are developing a series of feature-length movies, as part of their burgeoning Walking Dead universe, under the guidance of Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, who is writing the first series of films. "I wake up, the phone rings, he wants to talk about everything on the way to work". It was like watching Glenn fall under that dumpster all over again. According to Gimple, some of the stories will relate to THE WALKING DEAD as fans know it while others will be standalone stories that break into new creative territory.
He will be starring in a series of original films from AMC Studios - the company behind The Walking Dead - which will continue the story of Grimes.
Rick's return: "The story of Rick will go on in films, ' Gimple says". A time jump of several years was, however, suggested in the show's final moments.
"These films are going to be big evolutions of what we've been doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features", Gimble told Variety. Each of those three characters kind of give a specific piece of the puzzle that he needs to keep going: Shane kind of riles him up but pushing him towards the brutal courage that he needs.
Production is slated to begin sometime in 2019, although there is no air date set and it isn't known where filming will take place.
Lincoln departed the show to spend more time with his family, who are based in England.
As the episode moved toward its conclusion, Rick realized he could wipe out the zombies by blowing up a bridge.
Meanwhile, fans may be shocked to learn that Lauren Cohan's Maggie also said farewell in "What Comes After". AMC are clearly ignoring the fact that their once-hit TV show has seen ratings plummet since season five, and have chose to take a stab at the movies.
We've been talking to Lauren and hopefully, we'll get to tell more story for her. This here with us, this is our thing. It's a promise of more story, but I suppose cliffhangers in general are looking upon a certain way.
This is indeed surprising. Each film will be given a feature film budget and be feature length, with anticipated runtimes of two hours.
And other prominent cast members could soon follow Lincoln and Cohan.
As for the future of the show, it seems to be heading in an entirely new direction, helmed by the young Judith and a whole slew of new characters. That wasn't the case, so Rick made a decision to blow the whole thing up, just in time for Maggie, Michonne, Carol and Daryl to watch in horror as he sacrificed himself for their safety.
