The Razorbacks broke a streak of not scoring in the first quarter on Cheyenne O'Grady's 8-yard touchdown catch from Ty Storey with 24 seconds remaining in the opening period against Alabama.
As bad as the score was, the Razorbacks actually showed signs of life on offense.
Here's a little taste of what the Alabama student section looked like in the first half of Saturday's win over the Ragin' Cajuns. Their last nine opponents averaged only 5.1 first-half points.
Backup quarterback Cole Kelley threw the second touchdown, faking the run before pulling up and firing a 3-yard pass to O'Grady. No. 1 Alabama led the way followed by No. 2 Georgia, No. 12 LSU, No. 16 Florida, No. 20 Kentucky, No. 21 Auburn and No. 22 Texas A&M. However, Storey fumbled the ball at the goal line trying to pull the Razorbacks within a touchdown and Alabama recovered. He is now 76-of-102 for 1,495 yards and has no interceptions on the year, and he has yet to play in a fourth quarter.
Alabama had its way on the other side of the ball.
"We made a lot of mistakes on defense", said Saban after giving up 405 yards to Arkansas (1-5, 0-3). Senior tailback Damien Harris ran for 111 yards and two TDs while receiver Jerry Jeudy and tight end Irv Smith Jr. combined for 258 yards receiving and three TDs.
Alabama's 639 total yards were the fourth highest total posted against Arkansas and a season high for the Crimson Tide, eclipsing the 608 gained yards in the previous week's 56-14 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. They need to be able to make adjustments in the game better.
The Razorback defense made a big 4th-down stop, the second 4th-down conversion Alabama has attempted and the first the Tide has failed to convert.
Tagovailoa has thrown one more touchdown pass (18) than Greg McElroy threw in Alabama's entire 2009 national championship season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
