Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the role he played in his development in politics.
They will be deciding who shall represent the party ahead of the presidential election in February 2019.
Presidential aspirants who lost to Atiku Abubakar in the Peoples Democratic Party primary have pledged to support him.
Like all 11 other presidential aspirants of the party, Dankwambo is presently in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the National Convention of the PDP is ongoing.
"Before the PDP primaries, Atiku came to us in Afenifere and promised us that he was going to restructure the country, and we have already said that anybody who wants to restructure with all seriousness, such a person will be our candidate".
However, it added that the Sokoto governor "offers the best chance of appealing to the critical northwestern and northeastern voting bloc, and that he will be Buhari's strongest challenger".
Saraki in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu also commended the delegates to the convention and members of the organizing committte led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State for holding a convention in which a candidate was elected in a free, fair, transparent and rancour-free atmosphere. "The task to get Nigeria working again starts now".
He said "As at thursday, APC brought hoodlums to create an atmosphere of insecurity in Rivers State".
"Indeed the victor of this convention is the party which ensured that the elections went free, fair and credible that all aspirants accepted the result and willing to support the victor in the general elections", the party said.
Buhari had indicated in April that he planned to run for a second term.
Dubbed "Baba Go Slow" because he took six months to appoint Cabinet ministers, he has also faced attacks for his handling of the economy, which plunged into recession in 2016.
