Last Friday, US President Donald Trump ordered a fresh Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into sex assault allegations against his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, complying with a Senate request after two days of raucous confirmation hearings for the right-leaning judge.
And, of course, the Log Cabin Republicans executive director Gregory Angelo quickly got his feathers ruffled. "I'm going to take it to a 15 real quick!" he exclaimed noting that he wrote his speech "last night while screaming into an empty bag of Doritos". Lindsey Graham and Aidy Bryant as Rachel Mitchell, the little-seen prosecutor hired to oversee the testimonies.
"I got these calendars", he said weepily, "these attractive, creepy calendars". You give him a damn robe and you let him do whatever the hell he wants.
The sketch also toys with Kavanaugh's numerous references at the hearing to liking beer. "I [wouldn't] care if this cost me $10 million dollars. you're not taking my name from me", Damon said in the interview.
In walks a shouting, sniffing Judge Brett Kavanaugh, in an appearance by Matt Damon. Damon's character asks, quickly following up with, "Sorry, I didn't mean it".
Alex Moffat, playing Senator Chuck Grassley kicked off proceedings. There ain't no due process. He was also criticized for commenting that there's "a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?". Graham's intentions for giving the speech, joking that this was his "audition for Mr. Trump's cabinet".
Pete Davidson, the boyfriend of Ariana Grande, posed as Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, who interrogated Judge Kavanaugh about his summer months in the year of 1982 when the incident supposedly went down. "All I did was drink a lot and not think about having sex at all. Did you ever blackout?"
The sketch ends with a closing statement from Kavanaugh warning Americans that "you're all going to pay!" once "I get on that Supreme Court".
