Last week, just weeks before its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, 20th Century Fox cut a scene from director Shane Black's The Predator featuring a longtime friend of his who, it turned out, happens to be a registered sex offender. During a scheduled interview with The Hollywood Reporter, all of Munn's co-stars bailed on her, with the exception of 11-year-old actor Jacob Tremblay. It's the fans and news outlets that's confirming it to me that what I did was the right thing. I don't know how to skirt around the issue. "But I deserve to make that choice for myself", said Munn. The actress has been doing the TIFF interview circuit largely alone, most of her male co-stars all backing out, seemingly in hopes of avoiding questions regarding Black and Striegel.
"I do feel like I've been treated by some people like I'm the one who went to jail or I'm the one who put this guy on our set", Munn said. "I now realize that my understanding of the situation was not the full picture and the last thing I want is for Olivia to ever feel abandoned or alone".
And while production bosses took immediate steps to remove Steven Wilder Striegel's short scene from the movie after they learned what their star actress had figured out about the man, Olivia Munn still got the short end of the stick from much of the cast and crew after speaking up.
But, in a recent interview with Variety, Munn said it was days before Fox took action, meeting her report with complete silence, pushing her to reach out again. I did see his apology.
Since her comments, Brown tweeted his support and apologized for having to feel like she's "isolated in taking action".
Brown noted that the studio and the rest of the cast was never given a say about working with an actor convicted of a sex crime, since Black never disclosed that information before Striegel appeared in the film. I just know how to be honest about it.
The Los Angeles Times has reported that in 2010, the ex-soap actor pled guilty after allegations were raise that he tried to tempt a 14-year-old girl into a physically intimate relationship over the web. "I believe strongly in giving people second chances. but sometimes you discover that chance is not as warranted as you may have hoped".
Olivia says she felt shunned after voicing her opinion on the matter because her co-stars didn't reach out to her or voice their support.
However things work out for Black and Munn, you can expect some of this tension to still be in the air by the time The Predator hits United States theaters on September 14th.
