The White House has aggressively pushed back on the piece, calling the author a traitor and a coward.
Warrens call for administration officials to act on their dire warnings comes just days after the publication of explosive excerpts from legendary journalist Bob Woodward's new book, largely based on sourcing he describes as "deep background" with first-hand witnesses to the events he describes, as well as an anonymous op-ed from a "senior official in the Trump administration" in the New York Times-both of which raised fresh questions about Trump's fitness for office.
As many have noted, it seems unlikely that the 25th amendment would be evoked by Trump's cabinet, given that the Trump official chose to write about it rather than help to carry it out. "Either they think that the president is not capable of doing his job in which case they follow the rules in the Constitution, or they feel that the president is capable of doing his job, in which case they follow what the president tells them to do". Senator Warren, for one, came out on Thursday to push for the President's cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment if they actually believe that Trump is unable to adequately fulfill the responsibilities of his office.
In the op-ed, which was published online Wednesday, the writer said "there were early whispers within the cabinet" of invoking the 25th, but the notion was eventually abandoned because "no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis".
Responding on "Fox & Friends", Warren's Republican Senate challenger State Rep. Geoff Diehl said Warren has a "radical agenda" and wants to "plunge the country into chaos". "It does not provide that senior officials go around the president ― take documents off his desk, write anonymous op-eds", she continued, referencing the op-ed's claims that high-ranking officials are secretly combating Trump ideas that they believe are detrimental to the nation. "They can't have it both ways", she wrote in the letter. "I'm taking nothing for granted".
Warren apparently takes the word of this anonymous "resistance" official as proof that Trump is unfit for office.
"My family is my family, but the Boston Globe conducted an enormously thorough investigation and determined that my family's background had nothing to do with my being hired anywhere ever", she said. Warren posted on her website. "So got it all together, handed it over to the press, and said, there it is".
